That ‘Impossible’ Hill: How Time (and Training) Changes Everything

You guys, I just had the most surreal ‘full circle’ moment on my run today! 🏃‍♀️

Picture little NiMi, huffing and puffing, pushing her bike up this MONSTER of a hill by the golf course between Lexington and Croswell. You know, the kind of hill that feels like climbing Mount Everest when you’re a kid? Every. Single. Time. I’d try to conquer it, and every single time, that hill would win.

Fast forward to today’s 8.5-mile run through my hometown (visiting for Turkey Day!), and I decided it was time to face my childhood nemesis. Want to know something hilarious? That “massive mountain” that haunted my childhood dreams? It’s maybe 200 yards long with a gentle slope that barely registered on my runner’s radar!

Here’s the thing, ladies – isn’t this EXACTLY how our fitness journeys work? Those seemingly impossible challenges that keep us up at night? The ones that make us think “I could never…”? They start looking a whole lot different once you’ve put in the work and built your strength.

Three years ago, I couldn’t run a mile. Today, I’m casually conquering my childhood giants during a casual 8.5-mile morning run. (Still can’t believe I just typed that! 😅)
